**** THIS IS A BIT OF A DIFFERENT POST FOR THIS WEEK || NOT MY IMAGE ******
I am currently taking a class that’s called culture of money; essentially it’s about the history of money.
Around the first week of classes one of our assignments was to write a paragraph on “What is money?” I thought that this would be a great blog post because I feel that in today’s society money is everything. I am also curious to see what others think of this topic. If you read through my post, leave a comment letting me know what you think money is?
It took me a while to come up with my paragraph for class, but in my little noggin of mine I came up with this…
Money is just a piece of paper with numbers and past president’s faces on it but has a whole lot of meaning to it. In today’s world, we need money to survive. We can’t live with out it per say because we need a home to live (rent/mortgage), we need food to eat, we need to stay healthy (health insurance/doctor’s visits), we need clothes to keep us warm, we need a vehicle to get us to work, (in my case; we don’t have taxi/buses in my town), we want to have babies/family, and then there are the wants; vacations, new toys/gadgets and so forth! It’s such a viscous cycle. Do we really want these things or is it to show some kind of status symbol to show that we have money. Why do we want all of these new things?
I am not going to lie, I want all of these cool new things because I feel that’s what will make me happy. But is it really new toys that will make me happy. No. I think it’s because I am growing up that I realize buying new things every chance I get to isn’t worth the money. Saving money for a house, marriage and eventually having kids is what makes me happy; to know that I will be living my life the way that I want to. I want to spend my life with someone to create a family and be happy together. I feel like I can’t do that if money isn’t involved. I wouldn’t want to raise a family if I have no money to support them. But how much is enough? How much money do I need to support a family? Is there even a limit?
I just wish that money didn’t revolve around the world as it does. Why is it that money needs to make others happy? I am hoping that this class will help me to learn more about money and what it’s true value really is.
Well I hope I didn’t bore anyone with this post, I know it’s a little bit of a different post but it’s been on my mind lately.
